It is the custom among Tuareg people to exchange rings as a sign of affection or friendship. Tassendert or Tuareg rings are an amazing miniature reflection of the Tuareg universe of symbols that hold memory & cultural meaning.
Hand-crafted silver rings containing the carnelian point of a tanfouk are worn by men and believed to have prophylactic powers. Traditionally, the inadane or Tuareg artisans crafted a wide range of rings with protective symbolism or tribal marks that represented the natural world in which they and their families lived.
